Edgemont 2017 election results

Edgemont 2017 election results

As you've probably learned by now, Democrat George Latimer won the race for County Executive, and Paul Feiner reclaimed his seat (for the 12th time) in an uncontested election for Town Supervisor (and he gave all of you a "big thank you").

Results from the Edgemont election districts were particularly interesting:

Edgemont has under 4,900 eligible voters, and 1,644 Edgemonters showed up to vote yesterday. However, of those 1,644, only 659 voted for Paul Feiner in an uncontested race, with no campaign for a write-in candidate. That means that three out of five (60%) Edgemont voters made the conscious decision toNOT vote for Mr. Feiner when they had no other alternative.

Incorporation is not a referendum on Mr. Feiner himself; it's a referendum on a Town government in which Edgemont lacks a meaningful voice. The unincorporated area has an institutional challenge with Greenburgh: the bulk of the voting power in Town elections rests with the villages, but the bulk of the impact of Town decisions is absorbed outside those villages (click here to understand the issue). Yesterday, Edgemont's silence on the Supervisor election was deafening.
