EIC Prepares Third Petition, Town Discloses Potential $9M Settlement

EIC Prepares Third Petition, Town Discloses Potential $9M Settlement

The Edgemont Incorporation Committee (EIC) has commenced work on a new petition to hold a vote on whether the Edgemont community should incorporate as a self-governing village within the Town of Greenburgh.

The Appellate Division’s recent decision cut the legs out from the largest obstacles imposed by Supervisor Feiner, and we now have clear guidance from the court that we intend to follow precisely. While we fully expect Supervisor Feiner to raise new challenges, we are confident that his efforts to prevent a vote will fail.

Voting on whether to incorporate couldn’t be more timely. Just as the Town nears the end of its bond payments on a $6M settlement for discriminatory land use actions, the Town recently disclosed a potential new $9MM settlement for inappropriate actions in connection with another land use-related federal lawsuit against the Town.

By incorporating as Greenburgh’s seventh village, Edgemont could elect a locally accountable, transparent village board that we believe would adhere to zoning laws; act as careful stewards of our land and tax dollars; and ensure efficiently delivered quality services. As in the other surrounding villages  (Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Elmsford, Hastings, Irvington, and Tarrytown in Greenburgh; Scarsdale, Bronxville, and 15 others throughout Westchester), the village board of an incorporated Edgemont would be composed of community residents.

By contrast, Edgemont currently represents only 8% of the Greenburgh voting population, so we have minimal electoral power to influence outcomes in Town-wide elections or Town policy in general.

We will be in touch with more details soon and we look forward to seeing you as the weather improves. If you are new to the topic of Edgemont’s potential incorporation and are interested in learning more, please visit us at http://edgemont2021.org or e-mail to villageofedgemont@gmail.com.
